A high school teacher in Florida is facing criminal charges after he was reportedly caught with a 14-year-old female student in an Airbnb rental.

The Miami Herald reported that Diego Guzman Carranza, 30, a biology teacher at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, was arrested Thursday after police found the pair together in a Wilton Manors apartment. The 14-year-old’s sister reportedly alerted authorities and revealed their whereabouts.

Though Carranza claimed he was unaware of the student’s age, the girl allegedly told officers that they’ve been in an ongoing relationship and alleged that Carranza said their sexual encounters were illegal given her and his ages.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the teen was wearing a long shirt and didn’t appear to be wearing any pants when police arrived. A search of the Wilton Manors property reportedly produced two boxes of condoms, sex toys, and Carranza’s underwear.

An Airbnb spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that they’ve banned Carranza from using their service following Thursday’s incident. Moreover, Miami-Dade school district spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego told the Herald that they’re in the process of firing Carranza. Carranza had reportedly worked for the district for a year and a half.

“The allegations against this employee are despicable,” Gonzalez-Diego said. “The district goes to great lengths to ensure employees are guided by ethical and moral standards, especially where students are concerned. Any action running contrary to the values we promote and practice will be dealt with in the swiftest manner.”

Carranza was charged with engaging in a lewd or lascivious act with a victim between the ages of 12 and 16. His bond was set at $50,000.
