Authorities in India believe a 27-year-old man brutally killed his mother during a ritual they say included drinking her blood before cutting her body into small pieces and burning the remains.

According to the New York Post, local officials allege Dilip Yadav blamed his mother for coming between him and his wife and staged the cannibalistic killing in retaliation.

He is accused of beating and slashing 50-year-old Sumariya with a hatchet in an attack her neighbor claims to have witnessed.

“I was shivering in terror and pressed myself against a wall as this beastly act was going on,” Samiran Yadav said.

The neighbor reported hearing unusual noises coming from the residence and walking up as the deadly attack began. Samiran recalled finding Dilip strike his mother on her chest, neck and head, using his tongue to ingest the blood pouring from her dying body.

After she died, her son allegedly took her body inside and chopped it up, throwing the remains on a fire.

Samiran reportedly contacted police several days later to report an “incident of cannibalization” at her neighbor’s home.

A statement from officer Jaiprakash Badhai indicated local police were shocked by the report. The suspect remained on the run as of the latest reports available.

Investigators responded to the scene and reportedly found human remains at the location along with blood stains, burned bones and ashes throughout.

Dilip was allegedly involved in black magic after discovering some related literature. His mothers ritualistic murder is believed to have been intended as a human sacrifice.
