Authorities in Florida say they were required to transport a robbery suspect to an area hospital recently when a body scan showed a foreign object inside her body.
According to the Treasure Coast News, 31-year-old Kathrine Graham was arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the St. Lucie County jail late last year.
Following an initial X-ray, law enforcement officers said they noticed a “small object” that didn’t belong in the Fort Pierce resident’s pelvic region.
Though reports show she initially told police that she did not have anything illegal on her person, officials were determined to get to the bottom of the mysterious appearance.
An affidavit filed in connection with the case shows jail staff allowed Graham to change her clothes before scanning her again, adding that the “same object was visible on the X-ray” that time.
From there, officials transported the inmate to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute a short distance away where she was asked to consent to a body cavity search.
She granted permission and a series of X-ray scans revealed “a small glass smoking pipe, commonly used for smoking crack or other illegal drugs” had been hidden inside her vagina, police allege.
In addition to the initial criminal charges she is facing after her arrest, records indicate she is expected to also be charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of introduction of contraband into a detention facility.
