DEVELOPING: Boy, 12, accused of murdering 92-year-old woman inside her home

A 12-year-old Oregon boy was taken into custody early Thursday, days after an elderly woman reportedly was found dead in her home.

The Oregonian reported that the tween, who wasn’t publicly identified due to his age, is being held at the Serbu Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of murder and first-degree burglary in connection with the death of Erma Burnell, 92.

The Register-Guard reported that Burnell was found injured at her Creswell home Monday and was pronounced dead at the scene. While the nature of her injuries remains unclear, though KVAL reported that authorities called her death “unexplained” and “suspicious.”

The boy was reportedly arraigned Friday morning. The news outlet reported that the boy is being prosecuted as a juvenile due to his age.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has reportedly declined to disclose additional details surrounding this case.
