A substitute teacher in Florida was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly having inappropriate, sexual relationships with three underage students.
According to the Citrus County Chronicle, Angela Cone-Stanton, 50, was accused of sexually assaulting one student and sending sexually-explicit photos to two more. The Citrus County School District said they hired Cone-Stanton on January 3 as a short-term substitute teacher for Citrus High School’s athletics programs.
A high school administrator reported Cone-Stanton to the Department of Children and Families, Citrus County police, and the school district upon learning of the allegations Tuesday. According to the report, a student who spoke with officers Tuesday claimed the suspect sent him partially-nude photos of herself through text message while two others claimed she used Snapchat to send them fully-nude pictures of herself summer 2018, the newspaper reported.
One of the students who Cone-Stanton allegedly corresponded with via Snapchat claimed she visited his home last year and performed oral sex on him. He was reportedly 15 at the time.
The Miami Herald described the three victims as student-athletes. School district officials, who announced Cone-Stanton’s firing Thursday, reportedly said they believed her inappropriate behavior began before she got the job.
WTVT reports that police arrested Cone-Stanton at her home after she corroborated some of the victims’ statements. She was charged with transmitting harmful materials to minors and lewd and lascivious battery on a child between 12 and 16 years old.
Inverness Storm cheerleading commissioner Sandi Watson confirmed to the Chronicle that Cone-Stanton was also heavily involved with their cheerleading and football organization, acting as vice president. Watson said she’s been “removed” from all Pop Warner roles in light of her arrest.
The substitute teacher was released from custody after posting $12,000 bond.
