Authorities in Illinois say a 29-year-old Elwood man was arrested Monday on suspicion of stabbing a man he claimed was engaged in sexual activity with his wife.
According to the Herald Bulletin, police responded to the scene after receiving a report of an apparent altercation at the suspect’s residence.
Upon arrival, investigators from the Elwood Police Department reported finding the victim inside of a vehicle near the apartment.
One responding officer reportedly found the man unconscious shortly after midnight on Monday. His injuries included several apparent stab wounds, police said.
Another officer entered the residence and found Neil with his own injuries, having lost a considerable amount of blood during the fight. Both Neil and the alleged victim, who had not been identified as of this writing, were transported to an area hospital.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home and conducted an interview with the suspect. Among the evidence reportedly removed from the home were multiple weapons and items containing DNA samples.
“Neil admitted that he grabbed a knife from the bedroom and started stabbing the other male,” police said.
He reportedly claimed he was awakened in bed to find the other man with his wife.
Police say the investigation into this matter remains ongoing, noting that Neil was set to appear in court next week to face charges related to robbery, drug distribution and other counts stemming from a January 2018 arrest.
He is expected to face criminal charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a felony, as reported by WTHR.
