Embattled R&B singer R. Kelly was arrested once again this week after the deadline by which he had been ordered to pay his ex-wife $161,663 in back child support.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, authorities indicated he would likely be transferred to a county jail cell from Wednesday’s court hearing in Cook County, Illinois.
The 52-year-old arrived at court prepared to agree to a payment plan, as reported by Yahoo.
He will reportedly be required to pay the full amount in order to be released from jail. A publicist told local reporters that Kelly was prepared to pay as much as $60,000 and did not expect to end up behind bars.
The unpaid child support stems from his 13-year marriage to Andrea Kelly. They had three children together and divorced a decade ago.
Kelly previously spent multiple days in jail after his arrest on suspicion of 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and his lawyer claimed he could not immediately come up with the $100,000 bail needed to secure his release. An acquaintance identified as Valencia Love reportedly paid the amount on his behalf.
His latest arrest came on the heels of an explosive, profanity-laced “CBS This Morning” interview with Gayle King in which he proclaimed his innocence.
Speaking about two alleged victims, Jocelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, and their parents’ complaints that he has kept them at his apartment against their will, Kelly blamed their families.
“What kind of father, what kind of mother would sell their daughter to a man?” he asked.
