Authorities in Pennsylvania say a man was arrested on suspicion of killing his boyfriend in a knife attack at a home in Lancaster this week.
According to Fox News, 30-year-old Matthew Van Zandt entered a hospital in Allentown early Wednesday morning with blood all over him. Once inside, he reportedly told staff in the emergency room that he stabbed his boyfriend to death.
Reports allege he provided details of the violent crime to a nurse on duty at the time.
He allegedly told a security guard at the facility that the murder weapon was still inside of the backpack he was wearing.
Officials say 31-year-old Ian Shannon’s body was found the same day inside a nearby residence.
As Penn Live reported, a police report described a “large laceration that extended from the base of the victim’s ribs to his nipples” upon locating the remains in an upstairs bedroom.
“Officers also noticed blood had covered the majority of the bedroom,” the report continued.
Reports show the suspect told police that the altercation stemmed from his attempt to end the relationship with his boyfriend. Van Zandt reportedly said Shannon began to make fun of him, leading him to retrieve a pocket knife and begin stabbing the victim in the head and torso.
Van Zandt was arrested and transported to jail without bail following an arraignment hearing held on Friday.
He is expected to appear in court again on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
