R. Kelly is free again after an unidentified person paid the $161,000 he owes in back child support to release him from jail for the second time in two weeks.
The Associated Press obtained video of Kelly making a brief statement to reporter after his lawyer and an unidentified man escorted him out of a Chicago jail on Saturday. As CrimeOnline previously reported, Kelly had been taken into custody on Wednesday after he was unable to pay the six-figure sum he owed his ex-wife, Andrea Lee, in back child support.
A spokesperson for the Cook County sheriff’s office told the Associated Press that the person who supplied the funds to release Kelly wished to remain anonymous, and that the person did not fill in their name or relationship to Kelly on the bond slip.
A woman by the name of Valencia Love, who said she was a friend of Kelly’s, paid the $100,000 cash bail to release him from custody after he was arrested late last month on 10 charges of criminal sex abuse. Kelly spent a weekend in jail following his arrest as his lawyer told reporters that he didn’t immediately have access to the 10 percent cash bail on his $1 million dollar bond.
Kelly pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges.
Following his release on Saturday, Kelly spoke briefly to reporters, thanking them and his fans, and said, “I promise you we’re gonna straighten all this stuff out. … That’s all I can say right now.’’ Watch the video below:
