Police in Delaware are investigating a shooting on Monday in which the suspects fatally shot two teens while holding one of the victim’s mothers and other children in the home at gunpoint.
WPVI reported that Janiya Henry, 17, and Christian Coffield, 17, were found dead in Coffield’s mother’s Wilmington home after neighbors claimed they heard about a dozen shots ring out. Residents told the station that Coffield’s mother and her other children were held at gunpoint during the deadly shooting.
It’s unclear what motivated Monday’s shooting and no arrests have been made. Police told KYW-TV that three masked men were involved and that the couple was found dead on the second floor.
Jamir Harper, a family friend, said two suspects went upstairs and opened fire, killing Henry and Coffield. Harper said the third gunman held Coffield’s mother, brother, and sisters downstairs.
“He told them to stay where you are, I’m not gonna hurt you. Then the other two went upstairs to do what they needed to do,” Harper told the news station.
Neighbors told WPVI that Henry and Coffield had a baby together in November. KYW-TV reported that the baby was at another home at the time of Monday’s deadly shooting.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding Janiya Henry and Christian Coffield’s shooting deaths is urged to call Wilmington Police at 302-576-3990.
