Authorities in Arizona say one woman is dead and another is facing criminal charges related to drunk driving after a dramatic incident on the road Thursday evening.
According to KNXV, 24-year-old Summer Leann Crosswhite was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by her friend, 21-year-old Courtney Kiser.
Police allege the driver had been drinking and at one point during the trip, Crosswhite jumped out of the car and sustained traumatic injuries.
At about 8 p.m., officials arrived on the scene and transported Crosswhite to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police believe the two women were drinking in downtown Scottsdale when Kiser said she was ready to go home, as reported by KPNX. Crosswhite was in the front passenger’s seat of the Ford Mustang in which they left..
Scottsdale Police tweeted that the “single vehicle incident where a passenger left the moving vehicle & sustained life threatening injuries” left multiple lanes closed in the area.
Investigators say Crosswhite jumped from the moving vehicle amid an argument with Kiser, who stayed at the scene after the passenger ejected. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
As of the latest reports available, police say the incident remains under investigation.
