An American man allegedly stabbed his estranged wife to death in the lobby of a divorce court in Japan this week.
According to the Kyodo News, the 32-year-old suspect was not named in initial reports. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Kyoko Wilson.
Police reported that the man also allegedly slit his own wrists and was transported to an area hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Officers caught up with him after he fled from the court building in Tokyo to a nearby park.
Reports show he was in possession of multiple knives and a liquid that appeared to be gasoline at the time of his arrest.
He is accused of using one of the three knives he allegedly had in his possession to stab his Japanese wife in the neck near the entrance of the Tokyo Family Court, as reported by the New York Post.
Wilson was reportedly taken to a hospital from the scene of the stabbing and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Local officials indicate the victim reported last year that her husband exhibited sign of mental instability.
Just before the stabbing, the suspect was reportedly sitting on a bench in the courtroom lobby. He and Wilson had a court proceeding scheduled that day and he allegedly jumped to attack the victim when he spotted her walking into the building.
