Teen mom of twins arrested after 5-week-old baby found with brain hemorrhage, skull fracture

A 17-year-old Florida teen was arrested after one her twin babies was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries on Wednesday.

ABC Action News reports that the infant arrived at the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg on Wednesday evening with a skull fracture and a brain hemorrhage. Doctors reportedly said the baby boy’s injuries were not accidental and could have only happened from “intentional abuse.”

According to deputies, the teen mom, whose name is unknown, was supposed to be taking care of her twin babies at her grandmother’s house in Largo when the incident happened. The grandmother left for work, then returned home to find one of the babies with his head misshapen. The grandmother said when she tried to feed the baby he wouldn’t eat and seemed uncomfortable and lethargic.

When authorities interviewed the teen, she reportedly kept changing her story and offered several different scenarios of what happened to the baby. Initially, the teen claimed it was an accident but later admitted she threw the baby on the floor when she became frustrated and impatient.

The little boy remains under physician care at the hospital. The other baby was taken in for observation but police said he didn’t appear to have injuries.

The teen was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County jail on one charge of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm/permanent disfigurement.
