Authorities in North Carolina say a boater in Lake Wylie spotted a body in the water near the spot where a missing woman’s car was found parked earlier this month.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, 39-year-old Vatsla Watkins, a mother of two, disappeared days before her Mercedes sedan was found parked at a marina earlier this month.
The discovery of her car prompted a search by air, ground and water in the surrounding areas with no evidence of the missing woman by the time efforts to scour the lake were called off on Friday.
Two days later, officials received the report of a body in the water. As of initial reports, the individual’s identity and cause of death had not been confirmed.
Police responded to the scene at about 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to WCNC.
Watkins is married to Curtis Watkins, who previously served as the chair of Mecklenburg County’s Republican Party.
Anyone with information related to Watkins’ disappearance is encouraged to contact authorities, either by dialing 911 or contacting Crime Stoppers by calling 704-334-1600.
