‘Dad’ brutally beats 5-year-old daughter to death, leaves bruises all over her body in shape of shoe tread marks, because she didn’t want to do her homework: Police

A father of a 5-year-old girl has reportedly admitted to fatally beating her because she wasn’t doing her homework.

KOAT obtained a criminal complaint showing that Brandon Reynolds admitted to police that he beat his daughter in a rage after he “blacked out” while spanking the girl, who was found unresponsive in his Albuquerque home and pronounced dead at nearby hospital.

Reynolds reportedly called 911 to say that his daughter was in cardiac arrest, and emergency responders observed blood evidence on the wall and a carpet in the home. The suspect later told police that he “he didn’t know what came over him” and appears to have described the alleged beating as “discipline.”

Police officers who went to the hospital where the girl was eventually pronounced dead reportedly observed bruises — that appeared to have come from the bottom of a shoe — all over her body. And a neighbor reportedly told police that they overheard Reynolds yelling “Get up!” and then reported hearing sounds of someone being hit.

Further details about the fatal incident, including the exact day of the girl’s injuries and death, are unclear, though the report indicates the death happened within the last few days.

Authorities told reporters in a video posted to the KOAT website that the 5-year-old girl’s mother lives in California, and that she may have arrived to Albuquerque only very recently.

Reynolds has been charged with child abuse resulting in death.
