Authorities in Georgia say a 6-year-old girl has died two days after her younger brother accidentally shot her in the head.
According to 11 Alive, the shooting occurred on Monday evening outside of a residence in Dallas.
A 4-year-old boy reportedly shot the victim, identified as Millie Drew Kelly, as they were in the residential driveway.
Their mother reportedly seated the siblings in the family’s vehicle, but she exited momentarily when the car failed to start.
Paulding County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ashley Henson issued a statement describing the mother as “frantic” when she reported the incident.
“The little 4-year-old brother somehow acquired the gun that was in the vehicle and accidentally shot his 6-year-old sister in the head,” Henson added.
Authorities say the incident will not result in any criminal charges.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, investigators believe the boy was able to reach the gun in the vehicle’s center console.
“Sometimes, unfortunately, accidents do happen and bad things happen to good people,” the sergeant said.
Loved ones remembered her glowingly in an online fundraiser that confirmed she “gave life” by donating her organs after death.
“At a young age, she knew without a doubt Jesus is all she ever needed and wanted you to feel the same too,” the GoFundMe post read. “She shared his love, mercy and grace to everyone she met.”
