‘Mom’ accused of murdering 5-year-old daughter with ex-NFL player boyfriend

A former NFL player and his girlfriend are accused of murdering the woman’s 5-year-old daughter, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Authorities allege that 28-year-old Cierre Wood and 25-year-old Amy Taylor abused the girl, La’Rayah Davis, before she died earlier this week at a Las Vegas-area hospital.

Wood played football for the University of Notre Dame before before being drafted in the NFL by the Houston Texans, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. He most recently played for the Canadian Football League.

Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer told the news outlet that authorities were called to a hospital around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday because medical staff had found what they believed were indications of abuse on the girl.

The child had bruises on her legs, torso and abdomen, according to KSNV-TV.

The little girl had reported been brought to the hospital from an apartment complex where she had gone into cardiac arrest. She subsequently died from what the Review-Journal described as “multiple blunt force injuries” and also had a lacerated liver, a prosecutor reportedly said in court.

Police arrested Wood on Wednesday and charged him with murder and child abuse or neglect. Taylor also was arrested on Wednesday, but she initially faced only the abuse charge and had posted $5,000 in bail to leave jail.

However, authorities rebooked her into jail on Friday on a murder charge as well, according to records obtained by the Review-Journal. The move came the same day Clark County’s coroner ruled the child’s death as a homicide.

Danuan Davis, the girl’s father, reportedly did not know Wood, the Review-Journal reports.
