Authorities in Texas say they are looking for leads in their search for the subject or subjects responsible for savagely beating a trans woman in the street recently.
According to Fox News, authorities conducted a search of the area near where witnesses say the victim was assaulted Friday following a minor traffic crash.
The incident reportedly played out in video footage captured by a witness’ cellphone.
Investigators say a man in a white shirt can be seen repeatedly hitting the woman, knocking her unconscious. Witnesses reported that they heard homophobic taunts being exclaimed during the beating. Bystanders reportedly carried her away and she was transported to an area hospital for treatment a short time later.
One police source indicated details including the victim’s identity would not be immediately released.
Mayor Mike Rawlings said the incident made him “extremely angry” after watching video of what what he called apparent “mob violence” directed at the victim.
He said he had been in contact with Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall, who assured him “that the Dallas Police Department is fully investigating, including the possibility that this was a hate crime.”
