Authorities in California say a 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorizing a group of people with a machete, injuring at least one of the individuals at the scene.
According to KRON, Marco Antonio Ayanpanjocop is accused of entering an apartment building lobby in unincorporated Redwood City on Monday evening.
San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene at about 6:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance, reports show. Among the three individuals allegedly threatened by the suspect was a 7-year-old girl.
Police say one individual was injured upon attempting to intervene when Ayapanjocop lifted the bladed weapon and began swinging it in the direction of the victims. The unidentified man reportedly sustained a minor injury to his arm.
Reports indicate the suspect was able to escape the location but was located by authorities and arrested a short time later.
He is expected to face criminal charges including felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to a child.
