Authorities in Nevada say a man’s attempt to stop a drunk driver from leaving a parking lot nearly ended in tragedy.
According to KOLO, 22-year-old Orlando Hidalgo-Martinez was leaving a strip club in Reno early Thursday morning when he attempted to drive away.
He reportedly hit another vehicle at about 3 a.m. and a witness made an attempt to stop him from driving any further.
In response, Hidalgo-Martinez allegedly targeted the other man and tried to run over him on his way out of the parking lot.
According to police, however, his attempt to get away from the Fantasy Girls location on 4th Street soon fell apart.
After driving a short distance down the road, he reportedly hit a utility pole near the intersection with Toano Street, according to KTVN. From there, police say he attempted to escape on foot but officers soon spotted him and took him into custody.
He is expected to face criminal charges including counts of assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving on the sidewalk, and driving without a license. Officials say Hidalgo-Martinez also faces an unrelated count of failure to appear in court for a prior misdemeanor charge.
