The man who murdered young jogger Karina Vetrano has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
The sentencing decision comes a day after a judge denied a motion brought by Chanel Lewis’s defense attorneys requesting to overturn his murder conviction, claiming that some of the jurors committed misconduct.
As seen in the CBS New York livestream of the hearing, Karina Vetrano’s grieving mother Cathy Vetrano testified at Tuesday’s sentencing, arguing that Lewis should be given the maximum possible sentence as he showed no remorse for the murder of her daughter, who had never previously met Lewis when he randomly attacked her while she was on her regular jog in a Queens park in August 2016.
According to CBS New York, Lewis’s defense team is expected to appeal the sentencing.
