Authorities in Ohio say a missing California teen has been found three days after she was reported missing earlier this month — and the man she was allegedly found with is now facing criminal charges.
According to WJW, the 14-year-old girl was last seen on April 15 in Santa Maria, California, where she reportedly vanished without a trace.
A 39-year-old man investigators believe the girl had been communicating with prior to her disappearance was subsequently located at a residence in Sheffield Lake, Ohio, along with the missing girl.
Authorities determined they met online and an investigation led them to Ohio, as reported by WEWS.
Upon conducting a forensic examination of a phone in the suspect’s possession, officers reportedly also found what they believed to be a stash of child pornography stored within.
Records indicate Jeremy L. Cruz was arrested on federal charges. The home where he was found reportedly belonged to a relative.
On Friday, officials say he was taken into the custody of federal authorities ahead of a court appearance set for later the same day. Cruz is expected to face a criminal count of interstate transport of child pornography.
The teen has been reunited with her family, officials say.
