A New York woman miraculously survived a 5-story fall from an apartment building Saturday, after she slipped and fell while trying to take a selfie photo with her friends.
New York Post reports that 22-year-old Reilly Hamilton was on the rooftop of her apartment building off of East 25th Street near Third Avenue in the Kips Bay neighborhood, when she lost her balance and fell through an opening in the building’s stairway landing
“She was taking pictures, and she fell, and apparently she hit the AC unit and landed in the trash area, which is like, horrendous. Horrible. I’m just completely shocked,” a neighbor told the outlet.
According to NBC New York, Hamilton was rushed to the hospital with a broken ankle, fractured pelvis, and broken arm. She’s in serious condition, but expected to survive.
Another neighbor, according New York Post, complained that a sorority group turned Hamilton’s apartment into a “nonstop party” area.
“The place is one nonstop party,” the man reportedly said. “It’s a bunch of recent college grads who basically transplanted their sorority up here and kept the party going. One [party] had been going all weekend long — just loud music, loud voices, all day and all night. I’d hear it every time I walked out of my apartment.”
It’s still unclear whether Hamilton, a graduate of the University of Kentucky in Lexington and member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, had any drugs or alcohol in her system.
Accidents and even deaths while taking selfie photos continue to increase. Hamilton’s accident follow the death of Andrea Norton, a college volleyball player who died while “re-positioning herself for a photo” while on a rocky cliff.
