A Kentucky father is facing murder charges for allegedly fatally punching his 1-month-old son in the head after losing a video game Friday night.
Anthony and De’Anthony Trice were reportedly alone together when Anthony was losing a video game he was playing. In his anger, he allegedly threw a controller and struck the infant in the head with his fist. Anthony told police that he picked his son up and took him to the kitchen for a bottle but dropped him, according to the Louisville Courier Journal.
Anthony reportedly called 911 and the infant was transported to the hospital in serious condition. He died from his injuries on Sunday.
First-degree criminal abuse of a child charges were upgraded to murder in light of the baby’s death. The suspect’s bond was set at $1 million.
The boy’s mother, Ronisha Tunstill, told WAVE that she didn’t see any signs that Anthony was a danger to their son. Tunstill said she had gone out to run some errands on the day of the fatal incident.
“I got a text saying, ‘Come to the hospital now.’ and I’m calling like, ‘Is my baby okay? Is my baby okay?’” Tunstill recalled. “[Anthony] was like, ‘Yeah, he choked on some milk.’ So, I’m thinking he’s OK because he’s choking on some milk.”
She told WAVE that she arrived at the hospital and learned her son had suffered three skull fractures and a brain bleed.
“He watched the baby and if he do get frustrated man, he would say, ‘Bae come home,’ … I come,” Tunstill said. “But, he didn’t do that this time and I wonder why.”
