Authorities in Florida say a woman has been arrested on suspicion of abusing her baby because the 10-month-old boy could not yet walk.
According to WFTS, 25-year-old Natalee Sesler is accused of shouting profanity at the child before throwing him into a wooden fence during an outburst at a residence on 72nd Avenue in Pinellas Park over the weekend.
She is then accused of throwing a metal rake head in the direction of her son, apparently intending to hit him with it, as reported by WTSP. The tool missed, however, and the mother is accused of picking him up by his leg as he screamed and throwing him against a nearby lawn chair.
Police say the incident occurred at about 6 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities responded to a report from the location and found the mother and son were both dressed only in shirts and the baby was wearing no diaper.
Sesler appeared to be high on drugs at the time, police reports show.
Two minors in the area at the time reportedly spoke to police and described the abusive acts they saw. They indicated the suspect had been visiting someone who lived at the residence.
She is expected to face criminal charges including aggravated assault, child abuse, child neglect, resisting an officer without violence, and probation violation.
Officials indicate the baby was transported to an area hospital for observation and is expected to be transferred to the custody of relatives upon release from protective custody.
