A 17-month-old Virginia girl died Friday from injuries she reportedly suffered Wednesday during a sexual assault in a motel room.
Nariah Brown’s mother, Aija Brown, told WTVR that she left her daughter in a South Richmond motel room with a man she trusted while she handled an errand. Aija reportedly returned to find her daughter—who she said was born prematurely and fought had her life—unresponsive in the room and rushed her to the hospital, where she died days later.
“I was giving my baby CPR in the back seat,” the mother tearfully recalled. “Because I thought she wasn’t breathing.”
Authorities confirmed to the news station that they’ve arrested a person of interest in this case. U.S. Marshals reportedly apprehended the suspect, who has not been publicly identified, on a probation violation.
Sources told WTVR that charges will be announced soon. Officials have yet to reveal or confirm the toddler girl’s cause of death.
