The suspects arrested for the murder of a pregnant 19-year-old woman allegedly distracted her with a photo album of the accused killer’s dead son.
As CBS Chicago reports, Clarisa Figueroa, 46, and her 24-year-old daughter Desiree Figueroa — both charged with first-degree murder for the brutal slaying of Marlen Ochoa-Lopez in Chicago — were denied bail on Friday along with Piotr Bobak, the elder woman’s boyfriend, who is charged with concealment of a homicide.
Ochoa-Lopez was killed on April 23, after she was allegedly lured to the home of the suspects who promised baby supplies. After she was killed, the suspects allegedly cut the baby from her body.
Buzzfeed News obtained court documents from the bond hearing, showing new evidence that prosecutors presented to argue that the suspects should be held without bail. According to the report, after Ochoa-Lopez arrived at Figueroa’s home on West 77th place, the mother and daughter showed the victim a photo album of Clarisa’s late son, who reportedly died in 2017 at age 20. While Ochoa-Lopez was looking at the photo album, Clarisa allegedly came up from behind her and wrapped a cord around her neck.
Ochoa-Lopez reportedly resisted the attack and was able to get her hands on the cord. At that point, Clarisa allegedly yelled out to Desiree for help before getting on top of the victim, holding the cord around her neck for up to five minutes.
The suspects then cut the baby from Ochoa-Lopez’s dead body and disposed of the woman’s remains in a trash can before Clarisa called 911 to claim she had given birth to a baby who was in distress.
The infant boy is currently hospitalized in grave condition without brain activity, according to the Chicago Tribune.
According to the CBS Chicago report, testimony at the bond hearing revealed that Desiree Figueroa is four months pregnant.
