Authorities in Arizona say a man has been arrested on suspicion of impregnating an 11-year-old girl.
According to KNXV, the alleged victim’s pregnancy was confirmed at Phoenix Children’s Hospital on Friday.
On the same day, 20-year-old Carlos Jacinto Cobo-Perez was arrested, police reported. The girl allegedly named him as the man who had sex with her, describing an encounter in his vehicle after school recently.
KTVU reports that this was not the first inappropriate contact alleged against him. Police claim the victim’s mother noticed a hickey on her daughter’s neck late last year and determined Cobo-Perez was the person responsible.
Following a confrontation with police, he reportedly acknowledged that his conduct was wrong and promised that he would have no further contact with her.
Upon his arrest at his home near Hatcher Road and 6th Street last week on the more serious recent allegations, the suspect was booked into jail with cash bond set at $150,000. In addition to the child sex charge, he reportedly also faces immigration charges.
Cobo-Perez reportedly asked a judge if he could sign the paperwork ordering his deportation. He is set to appear in court again on Tuesday.
