Authorities in Texas say a vehicle allegedly involved in a drag race earlier this week struck another car and killed one young girl while injuring another child.
According to Fox News, a statement from the Dallas Police Department indicates a total of three cars were racing on Friday evening when one struck a Chevrolet Impala with the two juvenile occupants.
The 9-year-old girl riding in the backseat was reportedly ejected from the car. Upon arrival at an area hospital a short time later, she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
Authorities identified the deceased girl as Olivia Mendez, according to WAPP.
Another child was riding in the backseat and was hospitalized, along with a front-seat passenger. Both were reportedly listed in critical condition as of the latest reports available.
The driver of the vehicle was listed in good condition, police said.
Police say they arrested the driver of the vehicle responsible for the wreck at the scene. He was treated at an area hospital and arrested upon his release.
The other vehicles allegedly involved fled the scene, according to police. Both have subsequently been identified and arrested.
As of the latest reports available, charges had not yet been filed against any suspects.
