A man in Minnesota has reportedly admitted to punching his a woman while she held her 2-month-old son, killing him.
Citing a criminal complaint, WITI reported that Jaquerrion Dancer’s mother, Jessica McNeal, claimed Kenta Evans, 21, came to see the baby Wednesday but “quickly switched from wanting to see (the baby) to accusing (McNeal) of having other men in the house.”
At one point, McNeal picked up Dancer and backed away from Evans, who allegedly began striking her with closed fists.
Evans reportedly also smashed McNeal’s cellphone during the encounter. McNeal’s sister took the newborn from the mother when she noticed blood coming from his mouth, prompting her to rush him to the hospital, according to WISN.
Evans reportedly fled the home after McNeal called police. WITI reported that officers went to Evans’ mother’s home and found him hiding in a closet and took him into custody.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Dancer, who died Wednesday evening, sustained multiple skull fractures, cerebral hemorrhaging, and extensive retinal hemorrhaging. An autopsy determined the cause of death was homicide.
According to the complaint, Evans said he tried to pull McNeal’s arms off of the infant when he became “frustrated” and started punching McNeal. Evans allegedly admitted that he struck Dancer multiple times and admitted to causing the baby’s head injuries.
Charged with first-degree reckless homicide, Evans remains jailed on $200,000 bond. According to WTMJ, McNeal said Evans is possibly the slain 2-month-old’s father.
