The baby who initially survived a violent delivery at the hands of his mother’s alleged killers has died.
WGN-9 reports that Marlen Ochoa-Lopez’s son Yovanny Jadiel Lopez died on Friday morning, a little more than six weeks after he was cut from his 19-year-old mother’s womb after she was murdered. Three suspects have been indicted on charges related to the brutal killing, including a mother and daughter accused of luring Ochoa-Lopez to their Chicago home where the elder woman allegedly strangled her.
Julie Contreras, a spokesperson for the family, released a statement confirming the baby’s death, obtained by WGN-9.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez,” the statement reportedly reads. “He passed away this Friday June 14, 2019 from his severe brain injury.”
Earlier this month, the family had reported that the infant had breathed on his own, and reports indicated that the baby’s condition may have been improving.
According to the news station, a lawyer for Ochoa-Lopez’s husband Yovani Lopez is calling for the suspects — Clarissa Figueroa, her daughter Desiree Figueroa, and Clarisa’s boyfriend Piotr Bobak, accused of covering up the murder — to face additional charges for the death of Yovanny Jadiel Lopez.
