Authorities in California say a fellow law enforcement officer has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor.
According to the Sacramento Bee, 44-year-old Shauna Bishop was arrested this week, about a month after an inquiry into allegations against her began.
Folsom Police Department detectives reportedly determined the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office deputy did not engage in the alleged illicit activity with the 16-year-old victim while on duty and she is not believed to have met the teen through her position in law enforcement.
“It was reported to us by one of the victim’s parents,” Folsom Police Sgt. Andrew Bates said in a statement to People. “We received the report in May and have been investigating since then.”
Bishop has reportedly been placed on paid administrative leave by her employer as the investigation unfolds.
In a press release announcing the arrest, the Folsom Police Department revealed that the suspect is expected to face criminal charges including oral copulation with a minor, sex with a minor, and molesting a child.
As of the latest updates available, she had been released from the Sacramento County Jail after she was booked into custody on Thursday.
Authorities indicate that there is no reason at this time to believe there are additional victims related to this case.
