Authorities in Indiana say a man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, but not before the elderly occupants leaped to action in defense of their 6-year-old granddaughter sleeping under the same roof.
According to the New York Post, 37-year-old Benjamin Dillon is accused of intruding into the home of Martin and Patricia Roth.
“I wouldn’t want him walking back in my apartment again,” said Patricia. “He will regret it the next time.”
As it is, he faces criminal charges related to the alleged burglary as well as counts of intimidation and resisting arrest.
He remained jailed with bond set at $75,000 as of the latest updates available.
A police report claims Dillon shouted, “I’m taking the child!” when he entered the home, waking the Roths.
“I was sound asleep in my bedroom and this guy came kicking in and said, ‘You have my daughter,'” Patricia recalled. “I was nervous, very nervous. I was shaking so bad.”
In response, they reportedly forced him out of the home and held him at bay until officers arrived a short time later.
“I don’t understand why he picked our apartment,” she said. “I’ll never figure that one out.”
Dillon was allegedly “shirtless and agitated” when he encountered police and threatened “fight and kill” them,” a police report states.
