New details emerged about a deadly shooting at a Costco location in California a few minutes before 8 p.m. on Friday night.
Initial reports indicated one person was killed and another three people were injured in the resulting rush for the store’s exit.
While subsequent updates lacked several key details, an off-duty police officer was identified as an alleged shooter.
According to Fox News, Tobias Kouroubacalis of the Corona Police Department said in a news conference on Saturday that no one had been arrested as of that time and could not confirm whether anyone else brandished a weapon.
Amid the chaos that reportedly ensued after the shots, some bystanders recalled seeing an argument between a man with a Mohawk-style haircut and another person moments earlier near the store’s freezer section.
One shopper was at Costco with her child and said she heard “about six or seven shots,” initially fearing they were at the scene of the latest mass shooting.
Local news reports estimated more than 100 people were gathered outside, many having left valuables and other personal possessions behind in the confusion.
In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the officer “suffered minor injuries in the incident and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.”
