Authorities in New York say a man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing his date to death inside the victim’s home earlier this month.
According to WCBS, 21-year-old Ryan Lindquist is accused of inflicting more than 100 stab wounds into the victim, 32-year-old Evan Grabelsky, in the fatal attack.
Nassau County law enforcement say the suspect was arrested on Friday, about two weeks after Grabelsky’s death at his residence in Merrick.
Lindquist and Grabelsky reportedly met online about a two years ago and had been involved in a romantic relationship since, as reported by WPIX. According to Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, the suspect visited the victim for a date on the night of the homicide.
“During that time together at the house, during the date, something happened where Ryan stabbed Mr. Grabelsky over 100 times, causing his death,” the lieutenant said.
Relatives of the deceased reportedly discovered his body the following day. Fitzpatrick said Grabelsky was covered in stab wounds.
“That, as well as video surveillance, telephone conversations, text messaging, all those and more pointed toward [the suspect],” he said.
Police are treating the death as an incident of domestic violence and do not suspect Lindquist’s actions were fueled by drugs or alcohol.
