A Wisconsin boy has died at a hospital from a gunshot wound and police are trying to determine what happened and why two adults abandoned him at the hospital.
ABC News reports two adult males dropped a 5-year-old boy off at the Froedtert South Hospital in Kenosha at around 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The two adults abandoned the boy at the hospital, prompting staff members to contact police. Authorities later found the two men, interviewed them, and recovered a gun, yet no arrests have been made.
According to WISN-TV, Kenosha resident Curtis Cannon said his two adult sons dropped the victim, his grandson, off at the hospital. Cannon claimed the boy was shot on accident but wasn’t sure why the men left the child alone to die.
“Maybe they was scared to death. Maybe they took him to the hospital because they realized they f**** up, and they didn’t want the boy to be in pain or suffer. I don’t raise killers,” Cannon explained.
Neighbors, however, are questioning why a boy was placed in danger in the first place.
“That’s a 5-year-old kid. Why would you leave a child?” neighbor Karen Bialas asked, according to ABC News. “How the hell did this happen? Who did it? Who had a gun around a 5-year-old? Why would you have a gun around a 5-year-old?”
The boy has only been identified by his first name, Cory. An autopsy is scheduled.
