Authorities in North Carolina say a woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to poison her fiance.
According to WBTV, 31-year-old Jaymee Cruz is accused of contaminating a drink she expected to be consumed by the 34-year-old victim. Investigators believe she used eye drops after being inspired by a scene in the comedy film “Wedding Crashers.”
Instead of poisoning the victim, police say he discovered the plot and confronted his fiancee, leading to a fight that saw the man retreat — along with the couple’s infant daughter — to a bedroom to call police.
Upon their arrival, officers reported that they spoke to Cruz, who initially denied attempting to poison the complainant. Upon further questioning, though, she allegedly confessed to the allegation.
Reports allege that she claimed to have been motivated by a desire to move out of the home and take their daughter with her.
She was arrested at the scene an is expected to face criminal charges including a felony count of distributing noxious or deleterious food.
As of the latest reports available, Cruz had been booked into jail with bond set at $2,500.
As WSOC reported, a case in York County, S.C., led to charges against Lana Clayton, whose husband died after allegedly ingesting eye drops she had put in his water.
