Authorities in New York say a man has been arrested on suspicion of playing a role in the death of a 1-year-old boy last year.
According to WNBC, the young victim, Darwin Gonzalez-Santana, was reportedly able to access a deadly drug cocktail of fentanyl and heroin in December while at an apartment in the Bronx.
His mother was reportedly arrested last month. Daira Santana-Gonzalez is expected to face a criminal charge of murder, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Another suspect, 29-year-old Chayanne Mendez Rodriguez was arrested this week and is also expected to be charged with murder. Investigators believe he was at the scene at the time Gonzalez-Santana ingested the narcotics.
His relationship, if any, to the child was unclear from available updates. Police say they are still looking for the boy’s father.
As police reports allege, the suspects were using the apartment where Gonzalez-Santana to package drugs for sale. As for the alleged victim’s mother, Santana-Gonzalez said she would have never intentionally harmed the child she loved dearly.
“My baby’s gone,” she said in an interview from behind bars. “I can’t believe my baby’s gone.”
