Authorities in Iowa say a woman has been arrested on drug-related charges following reports that her young child was locked inside her vehicle.
According to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier, Waterloo police officers responded to the scene in response to reports of a woman seated on the ground near a sedan.
Officers found the Chevrolet Malibu at about 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday and spoke to 27-year-old Sabrina Skye Larson, who said she lost the keys to the vehicle, according to police reports. Investigators say she claimed the child had been locked inside for about an hour.
Upon gaining entry and rescuing the child, officials from Waterloo Fire Rescue determined the 18-month-old was not physically harmed. Officers also allegedly spotted drugs and paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Reports claim a digital scale containing residue from illegal narcotics was recovered from a purse located near the child’s seat.
Officials initially said they were waiting on lab results to confirm that the substance recovered was methamphetamine, as reported by KWWL.
Larson was reportedly arrested and is expected to be charged with criminal counts including possession of methamphetamine, child endangerment, and child endangerment with exposure to methamphetamine.
