An Arkansas woman was sentenced to six years of probation Monday after admitting to planting child pornography on her husband’s phone and falsely accusing him of sexually assaulting their 13-year-old daughter.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that Cherie Renee Bolton, 34, pleaded guilty last week to possessing and distributing child pornography and filing a false police report. In addition to probation, Bolton was ordered to register as a sex offender and pay a fine.
Bolton was arrested in January 2018, months after she told Siloam Springs police that her husband had sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl and attacked her when she found out. Bolton later showed investigators the illicit photos she had planted on his phone, according to the news outlet.
Though Bolton claimed she hesitated to report her husband in fear of retaliation, WFSN reported that her story fell apart when authorities learned her husband her kicked her out their home days before she contacted police.
An investigation revealed that Bolton downloaded the images showing underage girls committing sex acts. Bolton initially denied planting the photos on her husband’s phone, but later admitted that she downloaded the photos while high on methamphetamine. She claimed she was upset because her husband was trying to keep her from their kids, according to the news station.
After being kicked out the home, Bolton reportedly said she went to a motel room in Oklahoma and did meth with a man she met off Craigslist. Bolton said she believed she downloaded the child porn while at the motel, an affidavit charged. The man reportedly ousted her from the motel room following an argument.
Both the 13-year-old and Bolton’s husband denied the rape allegations. KIRO reported that the girl Bolton accused her husband of raping was their daughter.
The judge ordered that Bolton must serve the entire six years of probation.
