A student at the University of Mississippi was found dead of an apparent homicide near a lake about 20 miles from the campus in Oxford.
The New York Post reports that police officers on a routine patrol Sunday morning found the body of 21-year-old Alexandria “Ally” Kostial, a sorority sister at Ole Miss. Her body was reportedly found near a lake, and authorities are treating her death as a homicide.
“It is apparent that foul play was involved,” a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said, according to the New York Post.
It is not clear if or when Kostial was last seen on campus, and there is no indication that she was reported missing before her body was found.
Allie’s father Keith Kostal confirmed his daughter’s death in a post on Facebook, and did not provide details about how or why she is believed to have been murdered. In the post, he said that his daughter had been taking summer courses and teaching fitness classes.
Kostial was originally from St. Louis, Missouri.
Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office has declined to reveal any details about the apparent homicide.
“This is an active investigation so details are no being released,” the sheriff’s spokesperson said, according to the New York Post.
