Police in Iowa said two teachers were found dead in a private swimming pool Monday night in apparent accidental drownings.
Citing Davenport police, the Des Moines Register reports that Mark Anderson, 60, and Kenneth Anderson, 57, were found dead in a pool located on the 1100 block of Jersey Ridge Road. Authorities said the deceased men weren’t related.
The Quad City Times reported that the home where the two men died has surveillance cameras which point to the swimming pool and hot tub area on the property — although law enforcement has not confirmed whether those cameras filmed the men’s deaths.
The news outlet reported that Kenneth and Mark Anderson were found dead at the home of businessman John Wisor, who associates said was not present at the time of Monday’s incident.
Wisor and Kenneth Anderson reportedly grew up in the same area. Cindy Denike, who owns a flower shop near Wisor’s home, told WQAD that the teachers were housesitting for Wisor while he was on vacation.
Both men had taught at the Bellevue Community School District. Kenneth Anderson was a social studies teacher for the district at the time of his death while Mark Anderson was a science teacher at North Scott High School before retiring in 2014. Anderson occasionally substitute taught and assisted a junior high school football team in his retirement, according to the news outlet.
Authorities declined to disclose details surrounding the men’s deaths or the discovery of their bodies. The incident remains under investigation.
