Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Jeffrey Epstein injured in his jail cell.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Epstein, who is facing federal sex trafficking charges, was found semi-conscious in a fetal position with marks on his neck earlier this week at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, where he is being held in lieu of bail.
NBC News spoke to multiple sources with knowledge of the incident, and one reportedly said that Epstein’s injuries were not serious, and suggested that Epstein may have faked a suicide attempt or a possible assault in order to get moved to another facility.
But an assault does appear to be a possibility: Another source told NBC News that investigators had questioned another inmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, regarding a possible assault. Tartaglione is a former Westchester County cop who is accused of killing four men in connection to a drug ring.
Tartaglione’s lawyer reportedly denied that his client had anything to do with Epstein’s injuries. He also said Epstein was seen in the jail on Thursday and appears to be doing fine.
Epstein is reportedly now on suicide watch. His trail date has not yet been set.
