Investigators searching for a missing 2-year-old boy whose parents died in an apparent murder-suicide have found a body.
WDTV reports that police searching for Aiden Salcito located the body of a young child in a remote part of Montana. Though a positive identification is still pending, authorities reportedly believe the remains belong to the missing 2-year-old boy.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Aiden’s parents Daniel Salcido and Hannah Janiak were found dead of an apparent murder-suicide shortly after police pulled them over in Montana on Wednesday. Police subsequently spiked the tires of the vehicle as Salcido, in the driver’s seat, attempted to flee. Salcido was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and Janiak was fatally shot in the head.
Aiden was not in the vehicle at the time of his parent’s death. According to WDTV, witnesses who saw alerts about the missing child came forward with information about a remote camp where Janiak and Salcido, who were from Medford, Oregon, had reportedly been seen in the days before their deaths.
The WDTV report indicates that the remains were found at or near the same camp. An autopsy is set to determine the cause and manner of death.
The couple’s relatives had reported them missing on June 11, the same day that Janiak had been set to begin serving a jail sentence for felony burglary.
This is a developing story. CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
