Original Story
Utah authorities are searching for a 12-year-old girl who disappeared Wednesday, supposedly after meeting a friend at a local convenience store.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Asiah Mister was last seen at the River Run Condos off of Carlisle Park Lane in South Salt Lake, at her grandmother’s home. She told her grandmother she wanted to meet a friend at a nearby Maverik Adventure’s First Stop convenience store.
The family said they didn’t know which friend Asiah left to meet. Police said she was reportedly meeting up with an “unknown female friend.”
Asiah left at 4 p.m., but when she didn’t return home by 10 p.m., her brother got in contact with her via social media. The girl said she was on her way home but never arrived.
At around 12:45 a.m., Asiah’s grandmother called authorities.
“At approximately 10 p.m. Asiah’s 11-year-old brother contacted his sister on social and was told she was on her way home.” South Salt Lake Police public information officer Gary Keller said, according to Gephardt Daily. “When she did not return the grandmother called South Salt Lake Police who began an endangered missing child investigation.”
Keller added that police searched the surrounding areas but had no luck. At around 2:20 a.m., authorities got a signal on the girl’s phone, coming from the 4600 South and 2930 West area. Shortly after, the phone turned off and police lost the signal.
Asiah is described as a black female who stands 5 feet tall and weighs around 90 pounds. She has black hair, worn in a ponytail. Asiah was last seen wearing blue jeans, fuzzy grey slippers, and a lavender shirt with multicolor llamas and four square designs on it.
