The murders of Shanann Watts and her two young daughters will be the subject of an upcoming movie on Lifetime, a year after Chris Watts was arrested for killing his family.
As CBS 4 Denver reports, A&E Networks announced the upcoming movie about in a media alert on the network’s website this week.
“Lifetime has greenlit the new movie, The Chris Watts Story [working title], revealing the months that led up to the horrific crime and piecing together the mysterious motives that made this doting father turn into a cold-blooded killer,” the announcement reads.
Watts, who lived with his family in Frederick, Colorado, initially denied any involvement in the killings, before later admitting to killing Shanann, who was 15 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. He claimed that he murdered his wife in . rage after seeing that she strangled their daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3. In November, he admitted to murdering all three as part of a plea agreement and is currently serving multiple life sentences in a Wisconsin prison.
Earlier this year, Watts provided graphic details of the killings in a jailhouse interview with investigators. He said in the interview that he strangled his wife to death before driving his daughters, with Shanann’s body in the car, to an oil field run by his then-employer Anadarko Petroluem. He admitted to burying his wife’s body before he smothered his daughters to death and dropped their bodies into oil tanks.
At the time of the murders, Watts was having an affair with a co-worker, and said in the jailhouse interview that he told Shanann he wanted a divorce on the morning that he killed her.
The Lifetime movie is expected to air in 2020.
