A pair of married murder suspects are on the loose after hijacking a secured van that was transporting them from a facility in upstate New York to Arizona, where they are facing murder charges.
NBC News reports that Blane Barksdale, 56, and Susan Barksdale, 59, overpowered security guards in van they were traveling in and took the wheel. The van was in Blanding, Utah, at the time, and has since been found, but the report did not indicate specifically where.
The married couple was being extradited to Pima County, Arizona, where they are wanted for the April 16 murder of Frank Bligh, 72, in Tucson. They were arrested in May in New York.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told NBC News that the pair was last seen in a visibly damaged red GMC Sierra truck.
Multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI, are reportedly aiding in the manhunt for the fugitives.
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the capture of both suspects; $10,000 for each.
The suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
