A Texas man was arrested Thursday for making false statements after police said he lied about the last time his wife was seen at home.
According to an arrest affidavit, the incident started when 34-year-old Reyes Gallegos called San Antonio police July 8 to report that he had gotten into an argument with his wife, 30-year-old Cecilia Huerta Gallegos.
FOX San Antonio reports that Gallegos told police that Cecilia walked away from their home off of the 5600 block of Southwick in Northwest San Antonio after they argued about infidelity. He also reportedly claimed the woman cut him on his finger with a knife before leaving.
Security footage at the home, however, tells a different story, investigators said.
According to outdoor security footage at the residence, Cecilia arrived home at 7:30 p.m. on July 7. Indoor footage showed Cecilia walk into her bedroom shortly after arriving home. She never appeared on footage again and was never seen leaving the home on July 8.
“After she enters this room she is never seen again on surveillance footage,” the report read, according to the outlet. “Four kids were in the home during this time and the suspect is seen keeping the children away from the bedroom that the wife was in.”
The following morning, on July 8, Gallegos turned the security cameras off for around two hours, according to authorities. When he turned the security cameras back on, Gallegos was seen “seen going in and out of the bedroom and moving about the house,” the affidavit read.
Gallegos was also seen “unloading two shovels and a chainsaw,” according to police. The arrest affidavit stated that Gallegos, drenched with sweat after loading items into his vehicle several times, walked inside his home and took a shower. Afterward, he called police to report Cecilia missing.
San Antonio News-Express reports that security footage at St. Francis Nursing Home, where Cecilia worked, recorded Gallegos going to his ex-wife’s job on July 7. A spokesman for the nursing home, Greg Rozmiarek, said Cecilia looked uncomfortable while talking to Gallegos.
“You can tell that she’s uncomfortable,” Rozmiarek, said. “He came very close and she took a few steps back up into the wall.”
Family members indicated Cecilia’s cellphone, personal belongings, and car were left behind, along with her children. Cecilia’s sister said red flags were raised when Cecilia disappeared without her children.
“She would never leave her kids,” her sister, Mireya Lopez, said.
Gallegos was subsequently arrested and charged with making a false report, a misdemeanor. He has since bailed out of jail.
Meanwhile, Cecilia remains missing. She’s described as a Hispanic female with black curly hair and brown eyes. She stands 5-foot-1 and is known to wear a necklace with a cross.
