An Athens, Alabama, city councilman and his wife were seriously injured Friday when they were apparently struck by their son in a vehicle, the News Courier reported.
Frank Travis, a councilman since 2016, and his wife Sharon were transported to a hospital in Huntsville, where they were placed in intensive care. WAFF-TV said the Travises were out of surgery but would remain hospitalized for a few days because of the extent of their injuries.
Officers responding to a 911 call from Frank Travis found the Travises injured outside their home just after midnight. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said Sean Travis, 33, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree domestic violence assault. He’s being held in Limestone County Jail.
Prosecutors have asked that the younger Travis be barred from contacting his parents when bond is set, WAFF said.
“We ask the community to please join us at the city in keeping the Travis family in our thoughts and prayers,” said Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks.
