Hours-old baby found near apartment complex dumpster; Police looking for parents

A baby’s cry alerted a woman taking out her trash to an abandoned newborn Saturday morning at an apartment complex in Arlington, Texas, WFAA reported.

The sobbing baby boy was in a container next to the dumpster at Monterra Pointe Apartments, the station said. The woman called 911 and responders had to administer CPR before transporting the child to a hospital, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Arlington police Lt. Chris Cook told NBC DFW that police were looking for the parents, who could face a felony charge.

“I can only imagine maybe what the mother’s going through.” Cook said. “There’s always a reason for something like this, so we’re not casting judgment, but we definitely need to figure out who placed this newborn child there.”

Cook said that container the boy was in was closed, noting that “there would have been probably no opportunity for survival had [the neighbor] not heard this young boy crying.”
